Taking the photos

Creating the video in DaVinci Resolve

  1. open DaVinci Resolve and create a new project

  2. to view individual photos rather than a packaged sequence (which looks like one file) ... before you import:

    • go to the Media tab at the bottom

    • make sure "Media Storage" button at top is selected

    • click the three dots above where files show up and choose Frame Display Mode > Individual

    • now you can go to the Edit tab at the bottom and drag drop your hundreds of photos into the Media Pool as so many instructions advise

  3. go to the Edit tab

  4. drag all your photos to the media pool

  5. you need to properly setup the timeline frame rate:

    • select all the photos files in the media pool (single click one and press command + a)

    • right click on a photo and choose "Create New Timeline Using Selected Clips..."

    • on the popup: uncheck "Use Project Settings"

    • in the Format tab: change Timeline Frame Rate to 16

    • click "Create"

  6. now select all photos on the timeline (single click one and press command+a)

  7. press command+d to change the duration of each photo

    • in the popup: choose the Frames tab and put "1" after Duration

  8. deselect all the photos in the timeline (click in a gray area)

  9. go to the Edit menu at the top left and choose "Delete Gaps"

  10. go to File > Project Settings...

    • make sure "16" is in the Playback frame rate box

  11. add sounds/music

  12. go to Deliver tab

    • choose Youtube settings

    • make sure you know where it will save the file

    • add to render cue

    • render all

  13. upload the rendered video to Youtube

if you want to do 12 fps

create a project with a timeline using 24 fps and make each photo last 2 frames when you get to the step above that uses command+d
