Final Project

Create a music video (one piece of music seamless throughout).

Requirements

Create a music video (one piece of music seamless throughout) including all of the components listed below.

No music videos in either section of MUS1331 this semester can use the same music. You can use classical or popular music (or something you compose).

For at least part of the project, you must use high quality DSLR or mirrorless cameras and external microphones (better than the ones that come on Zoom recorders). For parts of the video you may use your own gear (cell phone, audio interface, etc.).

  • our class has Sony a6400 (we have 3) mirrorless cameras and a variety of microphones

  • the library Media Lab has Lumix mirrorless cameras (make sure you get a lens, memory card, tripod, battery, etc. too) = https://hdplus.libcal.com/

Components that must be included:

  1. Split-Screen OR Multi-Screen

  2. Multi-Camera

    • watch professional orchestra recordings for examples

    • Recording = 2 or more video cameras recording simultaneously

  3. color grade (ideally using LUTs ... research how to do this!)

  4. Text Overlay to label a few different Shot types you used

  5. still shot (photo) that you take

  6. B-Roll Footage

    • this b-roll has to be taken in a different location and time than the main content of the video

  7. Screen Capture of Logic with sound [This component has several parts to it]

    1. notate a phrase of the song you are using in Dorico or MuseScore

    2. export MIDI from Dorico or MuseScore

    3. import that MIDI into Logic

    4. screen capture a Logic software instrument (synth or sampler) playing back that MIDI sequence (using QuickTime)

    5. export the audio (WAV or AIFF) from Logic to sync with the screen capture

  8. excellent audio recording quality

    • using professional gear = external microphones (not using the camera built in microphones)

    • target a desirable loudness (LUFS)

  9. add an overlay grid to a few seconds of your video to show you intentionally followed the rule of thirds at one point

How to turn it in

  • upload your video to your YouTube channel

  • create a short URL as follows to link to the YouTube URL for your unlisted or public project video = tiny.cc/[yourBear_ID]

  • Dec. 9 (last class day) I will navigate to tiny.cc/[yourBear_ID] and show your project to the class
